Celebrating the Art of Craft and the Craft of Art
One Piece at a Time
Over 50 artists of Lillstreet Studios celebrate the Art of Craft and the Craft of Art making one piece at a time. The second and third floors at Lillstreet Art Center 4401 N. Ravenswood Avenue in Chicago are bursting with artists working with a variety of mediums. Works in silver, gold, and gems, clay from terra cotta to porcelain to an atmospheric firing called soda firing, hand built and wheel thrown, sculptural and functional, lamp-worked glass, printmaking on paper and clay, and mixed media/collage works can be found by the visitor.
The melding of existing studios at the current site, the procession of familiar studio members that moved along with Lillstreet in 2003, and new artists who have joined the group since, create a unique atmosphere of creativity and vitality. The Lillstreet Artists have always invited the public in to view and to purchase their diverse handcrafted artwork, during open houses and holiday shows.
The public is welcome any day for the opportunity to visit and shop. You may find the artists and craftspeople working in their studios, demonstrating techniques, and creating - one piece at a time.
